Reiki Attunements in Oxford (Charter Township), Michigan

Settlement arrived in the 1830s under several names at once. The area was known as Demingsburgh, Demings Corners and Oxford Corners before the name settled as Oxford in 1836, and the township was formally organized in 1837, the year Michigan entered the Union. Farming came first, and the township shipped apples and root crops out by rail once the Detroit and Bay City Railroad reached the area around 1870. The volume of rutabagas leaving local farms was large enough that residents gave the place a tongue-in-cheek title, Baga Capital of the World. The ground itself turned out to be the other resource. Oxford sits on a thick glacial gravel deposit that was mined heavily through the twentieth century, and the township's landscape today still records it: water covers a little over a square mile of the township, much of it standing in old excavations that filled in once the pits were worked out. The township also keeps a piece of broadcasting history. Brace Beemer, the radio voice of the Lone Ranger, lived here on a 300-acre ranch on Drahner Road, and a street in the southwest part of the township still carries his name.
