A Guided Chakra Meditation Script for Sleep You Can Read Aloud
By Reverend Michael Allison · September 30, 2026
You lie down, close your eyes, and your mind starts replaying the day in high definition. So you search for a guided chakra meditation for sleep and find a video with dramatic music and a voice that keeps you alert.
The problem usually is not you. Most recordings are built to hold attention, and holding attention is the opposite of what your body needs at bedtime.
What works better is something slow, repetitive, and a little boring. Below is a script you can read aloud to someone else, record in your own voice, or simply remember well enough to follow in the dark.
Why Does Chakra Work Suit the End of the Day?
For sleep you read the script downward, crown toward the feet, because moving down draws attention out of the head and into the body. Rest on each of the seven centers in turn at about half your natural reading speed, with three or four slow breaths between sections. The full script runs about fifteen to twenty minutes, and a shortened crown, heart, and root version takes about six minutes. Falling asleep partway through is the desired outcome, not a failure, and this wind down practice sits alongside medical care rather than replacing it.
The seven chakras are energy centers described in yogic tradition, running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. You do not need to believe anything specific about them for this practice to feel good.
What makes them useful at night is the order. Moving attention slowly up or down the body gives a restless mind a simple route to follow, instead of leaving it to wander.
For sleep, I like moving downward. Starting at the crown and traveling toward the feet pulls awareness out of the head, which is exactly where most of us are stuck at eleven at night.
Before You Begin
- Lie on your back or your side, whichever way you actually sleep.
- Let your hands rest on the body rather than folding them tightly.
- Keep the room dark and the phone face down or in another room.
- Read the script at about half the speed that feels natural to you.
- Pause for three or four slow breaths between each section.
If you record it, do not add music. A quiet voice with long gaps works far better than anything produced.
The Script
Read each line slowly. Where you see a pause, stop speaking and breathe three times before continuing.
Settling
Let your body get heavy. Feel the weight of your head, your shoulders, your hips, and your heels pressing into the bed beneath you. Pause.
Breathe in through your nose for a count of four. Breathe out through your mouth for a count of six, and let the exhale be longer than the inhale. Pause.
Crown, at the Top of the Head
Bring your attention to the very top of your head. Imagine a soft violet light resting there, no brighter than a candle in another room. Pause.
You are not holding anything. You are not deciding anything tonight. Let the top of your head go quiet. Pause.
Brow, Between the Eyebrows
Move your attention down to the space between your eyebrows. Picture a deep indigo light there, cool and still, the color of the sky just after sunset. Pause.
Let the small muscles around your eyes release. Let your forehead go smooth and let your jaw drop slightly open. Pause.
Throat
Drop your attention to the base of your throat. Imagine a soft blue light spreading across the front of your neck like a warm cloth. Pause.
Everything you did not say today can wait. Let your tongue rest on the floor of your mouth. Pause.
Heart, Center of the Chest
Bring your attention to the center of your chest, behind the breastbone. Imagine a green light there, growing a little brighter each time you breathe out. Pause.
Notice the chest rising and falling without changing it. Let your shoulders sink back toward the mattress. Pause.
Solar Plexus, Above the Navel
Move down to the soft place just above your navel. Picture a warm yellow light there, like late afternoon sun coming through a window. Pause.
Let your belly go soft. Most of us hold this place tight all day without noticing. Pause.
Sacral, Low Belly
Bring your attention to your lower belly, a few inches below the navel. Imagine a warm orange light spreading through your hips and low back. Pause.
Let your hips widen. Let your legs turn outward slightly if they want to. Pause.
Root, Base of the Spine
Move your attention to the base of your spine. Picture a deep red light there, steady and heavy, like a stone warmed by the sun. Pause.
Follow that weight down through your thighs, your knees, your ankles, and out through the soles of your feet. Pause.
Closing
Your whole body is one long quiet line from crown to heels. There is nothing left to do tonight. Pause.
If your mind starts talking, return to the base of your spine and follow the weight downward again. Repeat that as many times as you need.
What to Do If You Fall Asleep Halfway Through
That is the desired outcome, not a failure. A sleep meditation that you finish is usually a sleep meditation that did not work.
Many people drift somewhere around the heart or the solar plexus. If you wake at three in the morning, start again at the crown and travel down.
Do not judge the nights when nothing happens. Practice works on an average, not on any single evening.
Making the Script Your Own
Change the colors if a different one feels right for you. Some people see nothing visual at all and do better with temperature or weight, so try warm, cool, heavy, or soft instead.
You can also shorten it. Three centers, crown and heart and root, still gives the mind a path from head to feet.
Many people who study energy healing begin with something this simple, then get curious about what they felt. That curiosity is often the real doorway into deeper spiritual practice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I move up through the chakras or down?
Move down for sleep and up for morning practice. Downward movement draws attention out of the head and into the body, which suits winding down at the end of a long day.
Do I need to see the colors to do this correctly?
No. Plenty of experienced practitioners never see colors and work with sensation, weight, or simple attention instead. The point is steady focus on one area at a time.
How long does this meditation take?
Read at a slow pace with real pauses, the full script runs about fifteen to twenty minutes. A shortened three center version takes around six minutes.
Can I combine this with Reiki or other energy work?
Yes. If you have received a Reiki attunement, resting your hands on each area as you move through the script layers the two practices together naturally and comfortably.
Curious where energy practice goes next?
If this script opened something up for you, there are gentler and deeper ways to keep exploring. Rev. Michael is happy to talk through what might suit you.
