How did Auburn Hills come to be?
Aaron Webster became the first settler in 1821, founding the village of Auburn on the Clinton River and naming it after Auburn, New York; his sawmill and grist mill drew settlers and by 1826 Auburn rivaled nearby Pontiac. The City of Auburn Hills was incorporated in 1983 from the merger of the village of Auburn Heights and portions of Pontiac Township. The name 'Auburn Hills' was first used in 1964 for an Oakland Community College campus.
