Spring Hill is a city split between Maury and Williamson counties, roughly 30 miles south of Nashville.
It shifted from a farming town of about 1,000 people in the mid 1980s to one of Tennessee's fastest growing suburbs after General Motors built an assembly plant there. The General Motors Spring Hill plant, built as the original Saturn Corporation factory, which turned a farming community of about 1,000 people into a city of more than 50,000. First settlers arrived in 1808 and the town was established in 1809; Albert Russell built the first home on the land. Saturn-branded vehicle production ran at Spring Hill from 1990 to 2007. General Motors announced the Saturn Corporation site at Spring Hill on July 26, 1985, when the community had a population of about 1,000.
