Prattville is the seat of Autauga County, Alabama, on Autauga Creek just northwest of Montgomery, and part of the Montgomery metropolitan area.
It was built as a planned industrial town around Daniel Pratt's cotton gin works. Prattville grew up around Daniel Pratt's cotton gin works, and the Daniel Pratt Historic District preserves more than 150 buildings from that industrial town; the city is nicknamed 'The Fountain City' for the artesian wells in the area. February 19, 1872: Prattville incorporated. Pratt also established the Prattville Manufacturing Company for cotton and woolen goods, founded the Prattville Male and Female Academy, which operated more than 50 years, and built the Old Plank Road connecting Prattville to Washington. 1839: Prattville was founded by Daniel Pratt, and the city is named for him.
