Germanic identity stayed regardless, and Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is one of the largest outside Germany, with Onkel Hans and Tante Frieda as its mascots. Schneider Haus, built in 1816, remains the oldest building standing, while the restored Tannery now holds Google engineers.
