How did Gresham come to be?
Brothers Jackson and James Powell established adjoining land claims in 1851, forming the rural community known as Powell's Valley or Camp Ground. Population boomed from roughly 4,000 to more than 10,000 between 1960 and 1970, reaching 114,247 by the 2020 census. The city incorporated in 1905.
