Portsmouth is a city in Rockingham County, on the south bank of the Piscataqua River, which forms the border between New Hampshire and Maine.
It is the only city in Rockingham County and the fourth-largest municipality in the county by population. Its historic South End and waterfront hold restored 17th- through 19th-century buildings.
