Nine formerly unincorporated communities became one city here in 2011, spread along the Santa Ana River in western Riverside County.
That made this California's most recently incorporated city until Mountain House incorporated in 2024. Rubidoux, on the western edge along the river, keeps the Jensen-Alvarado Ranch, a restored 1880s brick ranch house run as a historic museum. Glen Avon, the central community, is home to the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center, a natural science center with an earth-science museum and dinosaur exhibits. Mira Loma, the northern community, is known for warehousing and logistics, and Pedley is residential in the southern part of the city. Sunnyslope, Belltown, Indian Hills, Jurupa Hills and Crestmore Heights complete the nine. Rancho Jurupa Park, a Riverside County regional park, has camping, fishing lakes and trails along the river. About 70% of housing units are owner-occupied and nearly 80% are detached single-family homes.
