York is a historic manufacturing city in south-central Pennsylvania known as the White Rose City, a name rooted in the English Wars of the Roses and its enduring rivalry with nearby "Red Rose" Lancaster.
It served as the seat of the Continental Congress in 1777–78, where the Articles of Confederation were adopted, then grew into an industrial powerhouse — home to Harley-Davidson's motorcycle plant, the birthplace of the York Peppermint Pattie, and the barbell empire that earned it the tag "Muscletown USA.". Served as the temporary seat of the Continental Congress from September 1777 to June 1778 while the British occupied Philadelphia.
