How did Colorado Springs come to be?
Inventor Nikola Tesla built an experimental lab east of downtown in 1899 to study wireless transmission of electricity. The 1891 gold strike at Cripple Creek on the far side of Pikes Peak made the city home to a large share of the nation's millionaires. Nicknamed "Little London" for its popularity with English tourists and investors.
