Egyptian art showed her as a figure standing on the back of a lion, the same animal sacred to Athirat and to Babylonian Ishtar, holding lotus or papyrus flowers or serpents in each hand, with her hair falling in two curls much like Hathor, the goddess of sensuality with whom she was often equated. The manual also records her many spellings, among them Qetesh, Qedeshet, and Kedesh.
